The members of the Satkhira District Climate Advisory Forum have demanded the formation of a Coastal Development Board for the development of coastal areas and special allocation for the area by declaring the south-western coastal area of the country as a disaster prone area. They put forwarded numbers of demands to mitigate frequent disasters of the coastal areas. Half-yearly coordination meeting of District Climate Advocacy Forum, Satkhira was held on 25 September 2023 at Mangrove Hall, Satkhira. The meeting was presided over by Principal Md. Abdul Hamid, President of the Forum while Mr. Madhab Chandra Dutta, Farida Akhtar Beauty, Abul Kalam Azad, Ali Noor Khan Babul, Nityanand Sarkar and many others also addressed and took part in the meeting giving valuable opinions by their speeches. Mr. Mohon Kumar Mondal, Executive Director of LEDARS also delivered his speech and stated that this region is very vulnerable due to climate change. In this viewpoint, the government needs to undertake master plan by declaring this region as a special disaster prone area.

All the members expressed their solidarity and highlighted 8 demands for the development of coastal people through their speeches and urged them to include the demands in the election manifestos of different political parties. The demands are includes declaring South West Coastal Area as Disaster Risk Area; establishment of Coastal Development Board, keeping special allocation in the budget every financial year; undertake ‘a House a Shelter’ construction project; lasting solution of the provision of safe drinking water; reconstruction and maintenance of sustainable embankments; increasing tree plantation program and creation of Para forests and taking effective steps to protect conservation of Sundarbans.
