Learning sharing workshop to ensure equal wages for shrimp farm workers held on 25 September 2023 at Officers Club Auditorium under the project Empowering Women through Civil Society Actors in Bangladesh (EWCSA) funded by Oxfam Bangladesh and European Union. The workshop was presided over by Master Nazrul Islam, Freedom Fighter and President of LEDARS while the Chief Guest was Md Akter Hossain, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Shyamnagar, Satkhira. After the welcome speech delivered by Md. Alim Al Razi, Program Manager of LEDARS, the Chief Guest said that women workers in the shrimp farm are not getting equal wages as men, but they work equally with the men. Therefore, considering the present time, equal wages should be paid to women workers. He also importantly urged to make sheds and toilets for the female workers at the shrimp farm. The special guests of this workshop respective Mr. Manabendra Debnath, Assistant Professor, Atorjan Women College and Member of LEDARS, Mr. Ranjit Burman, Senior Teacher, Sundarban Secondary Girls’ School and Executive Member of LEDARS, G. M Abdur Rauf, Panel Chairman of Burigoalini Union Parishad, Renuka Rani Mandal, UP Member of Atulia Union Parishad, Nipa Chakraborty, UP Member of Munshiganj Union Parishad, Md. Al Imran, President, Upazila Reporters Club, Syed Istiaq Ahmed, Economic Market System Specialist of World Vision, Anis Suman, Vice President, M. Kamruzzaman, Organizing Secretary, Abu Said, Journalist of Shyamnagar Upazila Press Club were present in this workshop. The workshop was moderated by Debbrata Kumar Gain, Program Officer of LEDARS. A total of 40 representatives including shrimp farm owners of Shyamnagar upazila, teachers, journalists, civil society representatives and members of Shyamnagar Women Shrimp Workers Development Alliance participated in the workshop. In the workshop, women shrimp workers presented their learning and results under this project. In addition, the shrimp farm owners promised to pay equal wages to women workers and provide support in creating a suitable work environment.
